Real Madrid will closely monitor Xabi Alonso’s progress as coach of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
The former Los Blancos midfielder was appointed by the Bundesliga giants last week following the sacking of coach Gerardo Seoane.

Following his retirement from the game, Aonso managed Real Madrid’s U14 side in the 2018/19 season, before returning to his boyhood club Real Sociedad.
He led the Basque reserve team to an impressive first promotion to the Segunda Division in 60 years during 2021.

Despite being linked with a possible first-team job in Spain, after leaving Sociedad in May, he decided to accept the challenge of a role in Germany.
However, according to reports from ESPN , Real Madrid have added Alonso to a long list of potential replacements as they plan for life after Carlo Ancelotti.
Los Blancos would sign Alonso if he makes a good impression at the Bay Arena.
Their respective contracts both run to 2024 and Ancelotti has hinted he will retire when his deal expires.
