Kalidou Koulibaly interview with The Players’ Tribune. The former Napoli defender, now at Chelsea, has spoken about Senegal’s recent victory in the African Cup of Nations in 2021 and beyond.
The center back focused on choosing the national team he would play with as he could have chosen France as well. About the Africa Cup of Nations won: “It was the best moment of my life. When he plays for Senegal everyone stops, we gave a moment of immense joy to a people. All were together to rejoice, rich and poor.
“Sometimes people ask me why I chose to play for Senegal instead of France. They tell me that if I had chosen France, I could have become world champion,” said Koulibaly.
“I was born in France andI have French culture, but no one knows that at home l only spoke Senegalese, the dishes I ate were Senegalese. I chose Senegal to make my father and mother proud.Today I am very proud to have made this choice, I have never regretted it even though France is one of the strongest nations in the world”, concluded Koulibaly.
