Saudi Arabia defender Ali Al-Bulayhi has revealed what he discussed with Lionel Messi after his team’s second goal against Argentina.
Saudi Arabia produced one of the biggest ever World Cup upsets by stunning the Copa America champions in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.
Argentina took the lead through a Messi penalty, before two goals from Saudi Arabia in five minutes early in the second half brought the game back.
And immediately after taking a shock lead, Al-Bulayhi decided to turn around and boo Messi instead of celebrating with the rest of his teammates.
He touched it and whispered something to Messi to get the Argentinian star’s attention, while many thought he asked for the shirt.
However, Al-Bulayhi confirmed after the match that he did not ask for the shirt and showed what he said to Messi.
“You won’t win, you won’t win!”, were the words of the Arab star told the Argentine.
Papu Gomez and Lautaro Martinez were the ones to push Al-Bulayhi away from Messi, but not before the Saudi centre-back touched his shirt as a way of showing his national pride.
