Lionel Messi is having arguably the best World Cup of his career, scoring three goals so far, including one in Argentina’s win over Australia to reach the quarter-finals in Qatar 2022.
Messi, 35, had never scored in the knockout stages of the sport’s biggest tournament in four previous appearances. Messi, who was named MVP of the match on Saturday, spoke of how grateful he was for the support of Argentina’s fans.
“These are extraordinary sensations and we want to share these moments with them,” said Messi. “We know that they made a lot of effort to be here and we also remember those who are in Argentina.

“This union we have is something very beautiful and this should be the national team. We wanted to reunite with our people because it’s incredible how they live and how they transmit that joy to us. We thank them for that.”

“My family is always on my mind” Messi said.

“My children, because they are adults and understand everything, they suffer, they enjoy it.. I am very happy to share these moments with them. “It is my first World Cup with my children who have grown up and understand everything. For my younger children it is the first World Cup and it is always the happiest. Thiago, who is the oldest, was not yet aware of what the World Cup is”
